When it comes to Festivals, it’s always a challenge to impress the young ones. Many are dragged in by their parents and left to pass the time in their own little world unless something catches their attention. Luckily, the Highland’s Festival Youth and Teens Committee is fully dedicated to making sure all young ones have a good time. While the Highlands Festival seems like a mixture of adult-oriented Appalachian art and culture, there is a variety of things to entertain the kids! Engaging and interactive magic shows and workshops are available to familiarize kids of all ages about Appalachia in a unique and creative way. Who knows? When they get older, they’ll appreciate the culture of the community in a deeper way because it was introduced to them at such a young age. The committee even holds a talent show that kids can enter and win prizes! It’s a prime volunteer opportunity for those who enjoy working with kids and developing new ideas to keep them entertained. So if you want your own kid or any younger children in your family to be as happy and interested as you during the Festival, make your way to the activities from the Youth and Teens committee, and give them an experience they’ll never forget.
We always make sure to provide education as entertainment because that’s what makes the kids happy. – Aline Backes
