Larissa Venzie, marimbist, returns to the Festival for Classical Music Sunday. Venzie is a professional marimba player based out of Independence, Va. She received both her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Percussion Performance from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. She is currently performing contemporary classical marimba music as a member of the Virginia Commission for the Arts Statewide Tour Directory. Larissa has enjoyed offering performances to communities in the southwestern Virginia area for many years and has appeared in Independence, Galax, Bluefield, Bristol, Grundy and Blacksburg in recent years. She has been invited to perform for Virginia Commission for the Arts events including the women’s showcase Minds Wide Open for the Arts and Cultural Council for the Twin Counties in Galax, Va in May 2010 and as a solo recitalist in Abingdon, Virginia as part of the Virginia Highlands Festival in 2008 and 2010. She has performed at the annual December Highland Camerata concert series since 2009. Other accomplishments include accompanying world-renowned marimbist Gordon Stout on a marimba duet he composed for her, which is soon to be released on his upcoming CD, and releasing her self-produced debut solo album Neshamarimba in March. Larissa is currently working on her next album – a compilation of lullabies arranged for the marimba.
