Experience a day in the 1860s!

The Abingdon Muster Grounds will host the 6th annual Abingdon Civil War Weekend, an event for the whole family! Camps will be open Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm and Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. Battles occur at 2:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday and will feature infantry, cavalry, and cannons. A Civil War film (tbd) will be shown on a large outdoor screen on Saturday night at 8:30 pm. Admission is free!

This event will highlight the importance of the Washington County, Virginia militia and the Revolutionary War Battle of Kings Mountain, 1780. There will be demonstrations related to life in backcountry Virginia during colonial times. This event has activities for the whole family! Join the Overmountain Victory Trail Association, Blacks Fort Chapter-DAR, and General William Campbell Chapter-SAR as we bring past history to present-day life.

Visitors may walk in the footsteps of the Overmountain Men on a segment of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail! Admission is free!
