This year’s Competition Judge is internationally known, award-winning photojournalist Tim Cox of Wise, Virginia. Tim’s career began when, in high school, he discovered a discarded camera in a garbage can. His photographs have won awards from many competitions and for his many commercial works. In the Appalachian region, his best known image is titled, “Daddy’s Hands”. Named in honor of his father, the image of a miner’s coal-smudged hands won “Best of Show” (and several other awards) at the 1992 MINExpo International in Las Vegas. The photo is now part of the memorial to the men who died in the Upper Big Branch mining disaster of 2010. He and his wife have owned and operated Tim Cox Photo/Graphics for over 40 years.
